Wedding bells are ringing, and so are the trend alarms. As we look ahead to 2026, some wedding ideas are getting a big “I do,” while others might be better left at the altar.
Are you or someone you know getting married this year? Take a look at these trends and see if something catches your eye. Here’s what I’ve found, plus my two cents.
Customization
So much of what I’ve read emphasizes brides, grooms, and wedding parties embracing their own unique vibe. That means less cookie-cutter and more choosing colors, food, and an agenda that actually fits the couple getting married.
My takeaway:
- Make a list of your favorite things. Colors, foods, patterns, songs, activities. Figure out how to work them into your day.
- Incorporate your culture or start a new tradition. Both are worth considering.
- Know why you’re following a tradition, and make sure it feels good for you. Not every tradition needs to make the cut just because it’s expected.

Throwback Guest Experiences
According to The Knot, some couples are leaning into throwback themes for their wedding day. A few ideas that caught my eye:
- Retro games, claw machines, or other coin-operated games, or classics like BINGO and Connect Four
- Lace, crochet, or embroidered details
- Vintage-inspired dress designs
- Photography and videography that embraces the old, including black and white shots and camcorder-style video

Gen-Z Wedding Trends
I’ll be honest, I’ve been genuinely intrigued watching how Gen-Z is reshaping wedding traditions, and what I found didn’t disappoint. A few ideas worth considering:
- Smaller groups. Smaller or no wedding parties, private ceremonies with bigger receptions, and more intimate celebrations overall.
- Memorable activities. Experience-based favors and unique vendors like tarot card readers or tattoo artists.
- Meaningful venues. More couples are choosing a location that actually means something to them personally, rather than the default “pretty venue.”

Capturing and Preserving Memories in a New Way
Given everything else trending right now, it’s no surprise that couples are also rethinking how they capture and preserve their wedding memories. A few of my favorites:
- Wedding content creators. Raw, in-the-moment clips ready to post right away.
- Candid, slow, intentional photography. Unposed moments like walking together or taking in a view, rather than only formal poses.
- Interactive videographers. A style where the videographer interviews and engages with guests, so the final video carries a lot more personality and memory.
- Unique photo opportunities. Personally, I think a photo booth with unique, interactive props is one of the best additions you can make.
